Proof Of Editing - Dani

Here we are in the editing suite working on our film altogether. It is Tuesday 18th Of December and we are working on the male character in the house and the female character driving the car.

We have already come across a problem to do with lighting, as we filmed the car scene in the light and our film is meant to be set late afternoon/evening. However, we have overcome this by using the effects on Final Cut Pro to make the setting naturally darker so we do not have to spend more time filming.

Also, we have shot alot of film in the windows therefore we have had to make sure that we do not see us filming in the background. We have had to make sure we are very accurate with where we put the camera to avoid this.

Permission to film 2 - Meg

We need to carry on filming our short film, and this time we are going to Dani's house in North Chailey.

Because we all have different timetables, it's hard to find a time that we are all free and ready to go and film as a group. This is why our Tuesday double period is perfect.

Here is the email I have sent to Andy and Andrew asking if it's okay to film during the lesson.

Our Short Film. - Meg

 - Our short film will only involve two characters, Dani and Curtis, although we don't know their names.

- We will use parallel editing between the two characters.
Parrallel editing web definition - A style of editing that involves cutting back and forth between two or more scenes in which the action is taking place simultaneously or in which one action is compared or contrasted with another. See also crosscutting.

-We want to film in dusk, so the short film feels eerie and adds to the atmopshere

-We will see a man, appearing to be breaking in to a house, checking all the ways in, and finally climbing through the conservatory window.

-While he's doing this, we cut to a woman hurrying out of her office and driving frantically in her car.

-Cutting back to the man, we see him going through draws in the house, whilst in the dark. This makes us believe that he is trying to find something of value in the house.

-We see the woman pull into the house, and getr out of the car. She notices that something is wrong, but enters the house slowly.

-The man is going through a draw when he hears the front door open, and he looks up to see if he can hear anything more.

-As the woman walks into the room, she see's the man, and they both turn and look at each other, showing their reactions.

-They then exchange some dialogue and walk towards each other, and hug.

-This is where the short film ends, leaving the viewer confused and unsure of what has happened.

Shots Of House Outside And Inside:

  • This is a shot of the halway looking out towards the drive way where you will see the car headlights pull up. We thought the door is perfect to show this as it is glass.

  • The kitchen and the lounge of the house is where the male charater is going to search to try and find his keys. We thought these two rooms are important as they are the main rooms in the house and easy to film as there is alot of open space. Also, the rooms are very bright so there should not be a problem with lighting.

Permission to film - Meg

We sent an email to the teachers (Andy and Andrew) to ask if we could use a lesson to film some
of our work. We also carried out a risk assessment about filming in Dani's house.

This is the email that was sent to both teachers from Curtis's email.

Costume and Make Up - Meg

We need to create the illusion that the two characters in the short film are adults. Dani and Curtis are going to be the main characters, and as we are only teenagers, we want to convey that they are adults through costume, location and make up.

We think the woman, Dani, should appear to be in her early to mid 30's, and this will be believable because she will be leaving an office, getting into a nice car and driving to a nice big home. She  will be dressed in smart clothes (black skirt and a white shirt) with her hair probably tied in a bun to show that she is sophisticated. She will also be wearing normal make up (mascara and foundation) so that she looks older and respectable.

We want to create the idea that the male character, Curtis, is breaking into the house to steal things. This is stereotypical for male characters to be used in films to be the criminals, especially when its burglary. Because of this, we want him to be wearing all black, and possible a hat to conceal his identity. The man will then look threatening and like a burglar. He doesn't need make up, except maybe a smudge of black on his face to make him look dirty and like he's already tried breaking in.
