Little White Lies Research - Meg

About Little White Lies

Little White Lies Trailer

-Little White Lies is a bi-monthly British independant film magazine that makes it's income from subscription and cover price as it doesn't include too many adverts, (about 10 a magazine).
-It is published by The Church of London.
-You can find Little White Lies in Urban Outfitters, WHSmiths, HMV and main cinema's. You can also subscribe to the advert on their website
-The magazine includes reviews of films that are out that month, and interviews with people in these films.
-The magazine takes one main film each issue and uses this as the theme.

Target Audience

We can see from the content of the magazine, and the adverts, that the magazine is aimed at informed and educated film fans. It also targets people who have an intrest in graphics, art and design because the magazine is creative and the images on the cover are drawn and have little drawn images that have significance of the film in the corners.

The main demographic has been found to be males ages 26-35 years old.
These people tend to earn over £20000 per year.
It's also been found that these people share the magazine with at least another one person.
They also like to play video games.

This is interesting because it shows us who we are directing our review at, because they are the most likely people to read it.

Reviews from the recent issue of Little White Lies.

This is a review from LWLies most recent issue, with the Kathryn Bigelow film Zero Dark Thirty.
The reviews are roughly siz paragraphs long (about 550 words) and are set out in a specific way in the magazine.

The magazine has a special way of showing the rating of the film. They use a 3 point scheme, Anticipation, Enjoyment and In Retrospect. This is shown from a rating out of 5. This particular film is recommended by Little White Lies, and recieved two fours and a 5 for In Retrospect. This shows us without reading the whole review that they are impressed with this film and recommend it to their readers (male 26-35 year olds) to go and watch it.
This film happens to have the same target audience as the magazine, which probably has an effect on the review. The film was also reviewed by a male, so he was probably more keen on watching this than a female, maybe.

This review for Hyde Park on Hudson, featuring Bill Murray, recieved a smaller rating of 3, 2, 2. This is probably because the target audience is for older people than the people who went and saw the film to review it for LWLies. This film was also reviewed by a female, which would probably mean she is less keen on the film, but this is just an assumption.

A theme that seems to run through the Little White Lies is informed humour, and referance to other films, which goes back to the target audience, because it is assumed that the epople reading it are film fanatics and have seen other films which they refer to. In this instance, Hyde Park on Hudson is compared to The Kings Speech. This is something we will do in our review.
